COHRED is an international non-profit organization whose primary objective is to strengthen research for health and innovation systems, with a focus on low- and middle-income countries. The Council addresses continuing health inequities that persist in developing world by promoting research that addresses the needs of the disadvantaged. COHRED works with countries to build the skills and systems needed for this essential research by partnering with governments, research institutions and local communities. To all its activities, COHRED brings a practical and flexible approach – based on service, equity, partnership, equal participation, measurable performance and accountability. In addition, the Council is involved in systems strengthening in Africa and Latin America in specific areas such as research policy development, research priority setting, research capacity strengthening, research ethics review, civil society engagement and advocacy.

COHRED’s publications provide technical support, think thanks, consultations and other interactions with partners that aim to strengthen national health research systems.
