APHA champions the health of the public and strengthens the public health profession. The Association aims to improve the health of all people and communities and to achieve equity in health status. APHA speaks out for public health issues and policies backed by science. The Association influences federal policy and brings together members from all fields of public health to work on issues cutting across many areas of public health. APHA convenes pre-eminent meeting of public health professionals annually to discuss the latest research and share new ideas and best practices. In addition, the Association provides a collective voice to advocate at the federal level for laws and regulations that will advance the public’s health. It also advocates for funding for critical public health programs from maternal and child health to bioterrorism preparedness to prevention of heart disease, diabetes and injuries. APHA promotes “health in all policies” by building partnerships, coalitions and connections. The Association champions prevention as both an effective and cost-efficient path to improved health and wellness.

The APHA publications and periodicals section has public health books and texts. Other publications include American Journal of Public Health for public health workers and academics.
