Grand Challenges Canada is dedicated to supporting ‘Bold Ideas with Big Impact’. It provides funds for innovators in low- and middle-income countries and Canada and supports integrate science and technology, social and business innovation – known as Integrated Innovation. Grand Challenges Canada has supported a pipeline of over 800 innovations in more than 80 countries. It is estimated that these innovations have the potential to save up to 1 million lives and improve up to 28 million lives by 2030. The Stars in Global Health program focus on addressing some of the most pressing global challenges and explore transformative ideas at proof-of-concept that bring together scientific/ technical, social and business innovation. The Transition To Scale program supports innovators to take their bold ideas to big impact in the area of global health. The Saving Lives at Birth calls for groundbreaking prevention and treatment approaches for pregnant women and newborns in poor, hard-to-reach communities around the time of childbirth. The Saving Brains program supports bold ideas to improve early brain and child development globally. The Global Mental Health program supports bold ideas to improve treatments and expand access to care for mental disorders, through transformational, aff¬ordable and cost-e¬ffective innovations that have the potential to be sustainable at scale. Furthermore, Grand Challenges Canada is committed to supporting gender equality to help drive progress toward the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal Five: Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls.

The gender equity portal provides a comprehensive set of gender equality tools, supported, where appropriate, by case studies. These tools are targeted at innovators, policy makers, impact investors and others who are interested in supporting and enhancing gender equality through innovation.
