HST, a non-profit organization, has played a significant role in the transformation of the South African health system. HST’s approach is based on the primary health care philosophy through generating evidence-based interventions, good practice and innovations to strengthen the health system. The scope of HST operation ranges from regional and national levels, through provinces, districts and facilities and into communities. Other programs of HST include: innovative programs addressing priority health needs; public-private partnerships to build people-centered health systems; and mentoring, training, information and advisory services for health systems management.
