JSI has been active in Ethiopia since the 1990s, when it began efforts to improve and increase access to family planning services. Since then, JSI has fully supported the Federal Ministry of Health and Regional Health Bureaus in their quest to improve the health of all people across Ethiopia. JSI assisted the designing of the community health approach through the Health Extension Program (HEP) and trained a large community health promoter cadre called the Health Development Army. JSI projects under implementation include: advancing partners & communities (APC) ; data use partnership; communication for health; health management information system scale-up project ; Last Ten Kilometers 2020 (L10K 2020); maternal and child survival program; strengthening Ethiopia’s urban health program ; strengthening high impact interventions for an AIDS-free generation (AIDSFree) and universal immunization through improving family health services.

JSI documents and disseminates various results, trainings, and resources from its research, programs, and projects.
