PIH is a global health non-profit organization that brings care to individuals in some of the poorest countries in the world. By establishing long-term relationships with sister organizations based in settings of poverty, PIH strives to achieve two overarching goals: to bring the benefits of modern medical science to those most in need of them and to serve as an antidote to despair. PIH works in close partnership with local government officials and the world’s leading medical and academic institutions to build capacity and strengthen health systems. PIH draws on the resources of the world’s leading medical and academic institutions and on the lived experience of the world’s poorest and sickest communities. Programs focus on: Ebola; mental health; maternal health; child health; cholera; cancer & chronic diseases; community health workers; HIV/AIDS; surgery; tuberculosis; and nursing. The charity works in Liberia, Serra Leone; Russia; Navajo Nation/Native Americans; Peru, Mexico, Haiti, Lesotho, Rwanda, and Malawi.

PIH helped develop an open source electronic medical record (EMR) system known as OpenMRS. The news and stories link has latest news by programs, by media type and by country.
