President’s Malaria Initiative – PMI

Malaria prevention and control remains a major US foreign assistance objective and PMI’s plan fully aligns with the U.S. Government’s vision of ending preventable child and maternal deaths and ending extreme poverty. PMI partners to further reduce malaria deaths and substantially decrease malaria morbidity, towards the long-term goal of elimination. PMI currently works in 24 focus countries in sub-Saharan Africa and supports three programs in the Greater Mekong sub-region in Asia. The technical areas of support include: indoor residual spraying; insecticide-treated mosquito nets; entomological monitoring ; malaria in pregnancy; and diagnosis and treatment. Cross-cutting areas cover social and behavior change communication; health systems strengthening; monitoring and evaluation and operational research.
