The Fred Hollows Foundation works in Ethiopia to help provide better access to quality eye care and to train local workforce. The Foundation works to end avoidable blindness using the SAFE (surgery-antibiotics-face washing-education) strategy, which is endorsed by the WHO. Other activities include: training of health extension workers to promote eye care; training of teachers and training of health workers to perform trachoma surgery. Fred Hollows provides infrastructure and equipment to strengthen the health system.
